Niyati Rawal
BIO
Niyati currently working as an early-stage researcher in the Perseo project at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
Her research is about combining vision and language for robots to be able to perform actions.
She completed bachelor's degree at Osaka University, Japan and master’s degree at Rovira i Virgili University, Spain.
Niyati's bachelor thesis was about understanding the development of visual attention to faces during infancy for which she implemented a recurrent neural network (RNN) that learned to attend to visual stimuli in faces using reinforcement learning (RL).
Her master thesis was on artificial morality using knowledge representation, where she used a top-down approach to implement and compare the moral theories of deontology and utilitarianism in a Pac-Man game setting.
Before joining here, Niyati was a research assistant at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany where she worked on emotion expressions in human-robot interaction.
